Bariatric Surgery is a life-changing step on the path to being healthier and happier. These surgeries include Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass, and Gastric Band. However, this path is far from easy and can drastically change a person's way of life. In fact, most major insurance companies require Bariatric Surgery candidates to complete extensive pre-op tasks. These tasks include, but are not limited to, acquiring medical clearance from a Cardiologist and a Pulmonologist, several months of medical check-ups, and even a psychological evaluation from a mental health professional. Our Head Therapist is highly qualified and trained in Bariatric Counseling. Having had a gastric surgery herself, she is more than capable of performing the necessary evaluation and she can offer a unique perspective into the surgery process.
Unfortunately, it's not always smooth sailing once a patient undergoes bariatric surgery. Sometimes these surgeries can have an impact on a person's mental health. Conditions such as depression, anxiety, and even body dysmorphia can manifest post-surgery. Our bariatric counselor is highly trained in helping these individuals overcome any mental health obstacles that may transpire post-op.
